hanareradに滞在中のElisa Marchesiniによるワークショップを開催します。京都に滞在しだして、はや一ヶ月、今回のワークショップはレジデンスの途中経過を報告する場にもなるので、是非遊びにきてください。

**Shibori Lab**　
ー聞く、見る、考える、話す、デザインしなおす、そして見せるー

日本の服／西洋の服と聞いて、思い浮かべるアイデアやイメージにはどんなものがあるでしょうか？「Shibori Lab」の１日ワークショップでは、文化、歴史、社会、政治的な様々な要素を考慮しながら、この質問を考えていきます。伝統的な染めの技法である「絞り染 め」を使って、ファッションに対する考えを再定義してみることが、このワークショップの焦点です。

「絞り染め」という言葉は、顔料で染める前に布を形作り固定させる、様々な装飾方法を指します「絞り」という言葉が「絞る」という動詞から発生しているように、「絞る」「絞りだす」「押す」という意味 を含んでいます。つまり、「絞り染め」は布を操るプロセスそのもの、布の上で起こるのアクションを強調する言葉であり、それは、布を２面的な表面として扱 うのではなく、折りたたみ、しわをよせ、縫う、あるいは編み込むという３次元的なフォームの問題でもあります。

今回の「絞りラボ」では、白いジャケットやシャツ、ズボン等の（もともと西洋的な）普通の服を素材として使用し、絞り染めの技術を使って変更を加え、このワークショップ終了時には、全ての服がインディゴ模様になります。伝統的な技術を現代的なアプローチに適用させることが今回のワークショップの大切なポイントです。

**Shibori Lab**:

Shibori Lab = To Listen, Look, Think, Discuss, Re-Design(wring/squeeze/press) and Show

What are the ideas and images associated with (Japanese/Western) clothing in Japan?
The Shibori Lab will examine this question by taking cultural, historical, social and political aspects into account. The traditional Japanese Shibori technique will be the main focus of the event, and used as a tool to re-define the perception of fashion. Shibori is the Japanese word for various ways of decorating textiles by shaping cloth and securing it before dyeing it with pigment. The word comes from the verb root shiboru, "to wring, squeeze, press.". This verb stresses the action performed on cloth; the process of manipulating fabric. Rather than treating cloth as a two-dimensional surface, it is given a three-dimensional form by folding, crumpling, stitching or plaiting. During the Shibori Lab everyday clothing
("Western style") such as white jackets shirts and pants, will be used as raw materials and will be modified. After the one-day event all clothing will have an indigo imprint. The process of adapting the traditional technique into a modern-day approach is of high importance during the whole day.
